About me
I started carving fish during lockdown... and never stopped.
Hello, I'm Steve Huxley. I moved to South Devon with my wife Katie in 2017 and I am passionate about the environment, working with wood and fishing. We are lucky enough to live in Brixham, with the South West Coast Path and numerous beaches on our doorstep. I often find pieces of driftwood when I am down at the coast, and some of these have formed the basis of small carved pieces. I started carving fish during lockdown, when I had some time on my hands, and never stopped. My first project was a seven foot Sailfish carved from Victorian timber found in the attic of our old house. Recently I have decided to turn my hobby into a business, offering pieces for sale and taking commissions too. My carvings are not limited to fish, and I do enjoy creating other pieces of art and homeware. By the very nature of hand-carving, all items are unique one-off creations. I try to use salvaged wood, when possible. I was contacted recently by a Bass fisherman, who wanted a carving of the 'fish of a lifetime' he recently caught. The fish had been released unharmed back to the sea, but he had taken a few photos for me to work from. The finished fish, will form a lasting record and a unique piece of wall art.
